What the Barbault Basket was

Astrology runs on angles, the aspects between planets. Two planets 120 degrees apart form a trine and cooperate. At 60 degrees, a sextile, a gentler version of the same ease. At 180, an opposition, they face each other across the wheel.

Now watch what the fourth degree does. Leo, Gemini, Aries, and Aquarius sit around the wheel in a chain of sixties, one-twenties, and one one-eighty. Park a planet at the same degree of each of those four signs and every angle in the set turns exact in the same moment. That is what happened. At the peak on July 20:

Who Barbault was, and why this is not a crisis pattern

The name belongs to André Barbault, a French astrologer born in 1921 who spent most of a century on one question: does the sky keep time with history? He worked in mundane astrology, the branch that studies nations and eras rather than individuals, and he built a single number to test it. Take the five slowest planets, measure the angular distance between every pair, and add the ten numbers up. That sum is his cyclic index. When the slow planets scatter around the wheel, the sum runs high. When they bunch into one stretch of sky, it collapses. Plot it across the century and the deep troughs keep landing on the hardest stretches of modern history: 1918, 1943, the floor of late 1982 and 1983, and a dip bottoming in early 2022. In 2011, at ninety years old, he wrote in print that the low coming around 2020 to 2021 carried the risk of a serious epidemic. Nine years later the world shut its doors.

Why a dispersing pattern keeps re-ringing

If the planets are spreading out, why does the pattern come back? Retrogrades. For close to half of every year, each outer planet appears to back up as Earth overtakes it on the inside. So Neptune does not walk away from Pluto in a straight line. It slides forward, stops, slides back across the same degrees, and on each pass the sextile clicks exact once more. July 26: Saturn stations retrograde at 14° Aries and spends the rest of the year backing up, until it stations direct on December 10.
August 12: a total solar eclipse at 20° Leo, inside a basket sign.
August 28: a lunar eclipse with the full Moon at 4° Pisces, the basket’s own degree, square Uranus within a single degree.
October 3: Venus stations retrograde at 8° Scorpio.
November 29: Uranus trine Pluto exact, each at 3°31’ of its sign. Identical minutes on both ends.

2027: the tightest hit, then the basket re-forms

January 15: the deepest re-hit on the list. Uranus and Neptune, both retrograde, hold their sextile exact at the 2nd degree of Gemini and Aries, closer to the start of their signs than they stood at the peak.
June 6, 15, and 28: the basket re-forms. Uranus sextile Neptune at 6°21’, Uranus trine Pluto at 6°52’, Neptune sextile Pluto at 6°37’. Every pair of the remaining three planets within 22 days, all crowded around the sixth degree. If one month of this window deserves a circle, it is this one.
September 10: Jupiter, now in Virgo and out of the basket, squares Uranus near 10 degrees. The only friction aspect on the whole calendar. Every other beat is a trine or a sextile.
October 16: Neptune sextile Pluto again at 4°45’, the original number one more time.

2028: the weave stretches, then a farewell lap

January 13: Uranus trine Pluto at 6°.
March 30: Uranus sextile Neptune.
May 10: Uranus trine Pluto again, near 9°.
June 9: Neptune sextile Pluto, also near 9°.
Late September to November 8: Jupiter returns from Libra on the far side of the wheel: trine Pluto (September 24), opposite Neptune (September 28), trine Uranus (October 27). Then Neptune and Pluto close the book with a final sextile at 6°29’ on November 8. Four hits in seven weeks, the same four planets that built the basket, one farewell pass. After that, the calendar goes quiet.

By 2028 the band holding the outer three has stretched from about two and a half degrees to nearly five. Fewer hits, wider spacing, softer weave. This is what the closing of a window looks like from inside: not a door slamming, but a pattern repeating at longer intervals until you notice it has stopped.

Your planets in the band. The beats migrate through the zodiac: down to the 2nd degree in January 2027, up through the 6th in the June cluster, out to the 9th by 2028.
